Professional Appearance of Staff

All team members are expected to dress and act in a manner that shows respect to residents and enhances your ability to perform your duties. You must be neat, clean and well-groomed in your appearance and follow company and departmental grooming and dress code standards. To assist you in projecting your best image, we have set the following grooming and dress standards to be maintained by all of the team members. Additional guidelines may be in effect in work areas with safety and sanitation requirements.

Personal cleanliness is important to convey our positive attitude about ourselves and to avoid offending others. Team members are to bathe, use deodorant and brush teeth and hair daily. Perfumes, colognes or aftershaves are to be used sparingly
Staff clothing, including uninformed personnel, shall be clean and pressed
Team members will be dressed in approved scrubs or in the uniform specified by departmental guidelines.
Non-uniformed team members must dress in a manner that reflects modest attire. Lingerie must not be visible through outer clothing. Thin fabric may require a pant-liner or slip. Dresses/skirts should be no shorter than one inch above the knee. Tight fitting clothes are immodest and can restrict range of motion while performing duties.
Name badges should be clearly visible at all times.
Any additional garments worn when wearing a uniform are to be clean and not pose a potential safety hazard. Standard cardigans and lab coats may be worn over scrubs. Cotton turtlenecks may be worn under scrub tops as long as the colors are complimentary. Shorts are never appropriate.
Hairstyles should not be extreme or unusual and should be appropriate for the health, safety and grooming standards of the department and the community. Hair must be clean, well-groomed and neatly styled at all times. If team members color their hair the color should be maintained to ensure a professional appearance and to eliminate extreme contrasts between the roots and the rest of the hair. Wigs or hairpieces may be worn as long as they are of a business-like style and color.
Female team members who prefer long hair should take special care that it is neat and well styled. Female team members whose hair falls below should length may be required to confine their hair to prevent it from falling forward over the face while assisting residents or in areas where there is a safety concern. Hair should not be excessively adorned or arranged with ribbons, clips or wires. Beads and glitter are not appropriate. Plain, simple barrettes and hair holders are acceptable as long as they appear business-like and are not a safety hazard.
Male team members must keep their hair neatly cut and tapered. Hair length should not extend below the shirt collar.
Male team members must either be clean-shaven or have a conservative, neatly trimmed beard. Male team members may have mustaches provided that they are neatly trimmed and extend no longer than the corners of the mouth. Male team members may have sideburns provided they are neatly trimmed and extend only to the middle of the ear, following their natural contour.
Fingernails are to be kept short and shaped to prevent unintentional scratching. Female team members may wear nail polish, but nails painted with designs are unacceptable and nail polish should be maintained to avoid chipping. Females should not grow their fingernails past ½ inch in length, and male team members should not grow their fingernails past their fingertips.
Tattoos must be covered by clothing at all times.

Communicate clearly with residents. Speak slowly and enunciate your words well. Chewing gum interferes with clear enunciation of words and can be offensive to others, especially when talking on the telephone or wherein conversation with residents. Be a good listener.

Expectations: Any medical or religious expectations to the grooming standards must be presented to the executive director in writing for review and determination.

It is each team member’s responsibility to abide by this policy. If you report to work in an unprofessional appearance or dress, or in any of these standards are not met, the company reserves the right to not permit you to work until the problem is corrected.

I hereby consent to submit to a drug or alcohol test and to furnish a sample of my urine, breath, and/or blood for analysis, as shall be determined by Greater Home Health Services (Company) in order to meet with their policy regarding the selection of applicants for employment.

I further authorize and give full permission to have the Company and/or its authorized agents and physicians to send the specimen or specimens so collected to a laboratory for a screening test for the presence of any prohibited substances under the policy, and for the laboratory or other testing facility to release any and all documentation relating to such test to the Company.
